Careless driving charge laid in dump truck crash

A 63-year-old truck driver is facing a careless driving charge in connection with a crash that left part of Walkerton in the dark earlier this week.

South Bruce OPP were called to the east hill of Durham Street East around 6:40 a.m. where a dump truck had collided with a utility pole. No one was hurt in the crash, but approximately 752 homes and businesses south of the downtown and Industrial Park area were left without power.

Westario Power sent crews to repair the damage and hydro was restored early in the afternoon.

On Thursday, police announced a 63-year-old driver from Walkerton has been charged with one count of careless driving in relation to the collision.

Police continue to ask anyone with information about the incident to call them at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
