Hundreds of homes and businesses in Walkerton were temporarily without power on Tuesday after a dump truck collided with a utility pole.
South Bruce OPP were called to the single-vehicle collision on Durham Street East around 6:40 a.m. A photo of the incident posted to the West Region OPP Facebook page showed the dump truck was loaded with snow when it hit the pole. The truck has since been removed from the scene, OPP noted.
The crash took out the hydro for approximately 752 customers south of the downtown and Industrial Park area, according to Westario Power. Crews spent the morning working to repair the damaged pole with power expected to be restored to all customers around 1 p.m.
OPP are reminding drivers to drive with caution on the east hill, particularly as forecasted freezing rain will make conditions even more slick.
