Heavy snow leads to school bus cancellations in midwestern Ontario

The holiday break is being extended for some students in midwestern Ontario.

Snowy conditions led to the cancellation of all school buses in Grey and Bruce counties and some cancellations in Huron and Perth counties. The full list is available at CKNXNewsToday.ca/closures.

The buses were halted by a weather system packing heavy snow that began moving across the region early Monday morning with the potential for freezing drizzle in the afternoon.

Environment Canada issued a yellow-level snowfall warning for Grey County, Bruce Peninsula, south Bruce County, and north Wellington County warning of 10 to 15 centimetres of snow. A special weather statement that had been in place for north Huron County and north Perth County ended around 8 a.m. Those areas were to receive 5 to 10 centimetres of snowfall.

Drivers were advised the heavy snow would make the morning commute a challenging one with the rapid accumulation making roads hard to navigate and reducing visibility.

Environment Canada stated that anyone travelling should allow extra time to get where they are going.
