Changes may be coming to the partnership agreement overseeing municipal participation in the Bruce C Nuclear Project.
Bruce County council is set to review proposed amendments to the memorandum of understanding that currently guides collaboration between the county, Kincardine, and Saugeen Shores.
The agreement supports joint involvement in the federal impact assessment process and planning for community readiness and benefits.
"The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Municipality of Kincardine, Town of Saugeen Shores, and the County of Bruce sets out how the municipalities will work together during the federal Integrated Impact Assessment (IA) process and negotiate capacity funding and community benefit agreements related to the Bruce C Nuclear Project," noted a report to council.
The Bruce C project would give Bruce Power the option to develop up to 4,800 megawatts of additional nuclear capacity. Kincardine has proposed modest updates to the MOU, including provisions tied to community services like childcare and libraries, along with an option for municipalities to exit the agreement if needed.
“Any Party may terminate its participation in this MOU by providing written or email notice to all other Parties, at least 30 days in advance,” according to the amendment.
A decision on whether to sign the revised MOU is expected during Thursday’s council meeting.
