The Durham Street Bridge in Walkerton will temporarily reopen to two-lane traffic on December 19. Bruce County says the change is part of the project’s winter shutdown and is meant to ease traffic and support snow-clearing operations.
Weight restrictions will stay in place, with alternate truck routes remaining posted.
Phase Two of the bridge rehabilitation is expected to restart in late February or early March, depending on weather, and alternating lane closures will return at that time. The County anticipates finishing the second phase by early July.
The bridge, built in 1937, is considered a critical piece of infrastructure on Bruce Road 4, the County’s busiest route between Walkerton and Hanover. Construction began after an environmental assessment that started in 2021.
