Matrosovs to remain as Grey County Warden

Town of the Blue Mountains Mayor Andrea Matrosovs will once again be leading Grey County Council after being acclaimed Warden at the Inaugural Meeting of the 2026 term.

This is the second consecutive term Matrosovs will serve as Warden.

In her inaugural address to council on Tuesday, she said that council should continue to prioritize sustainability.

"As we sit here together, and move forward into the next year, I believe we uphold what John Elkington calls the three Ps: a sustainable effort to make sure we are looking after our people, our planet, and our prosperity. He wrote that decades ago... but just because it was born out of a phrase and a movement that came from the profit sector, doesn't mean we don't live by those standards. As we do our work here at the County, we consider that lens each and every time,"she said.

She expressed a desire to build on the progress made in her first year as Warden, building relationships and working collaboratively for the benefit of residents today, and in the future.

"At the County table I do not hear competition when we discuss the present and future of our county and the decisions that weigh heavily on each and every one of our shoulders," said Matrosovs. "Even after spirited debate, I hear unison and a collective of heads and hearts moving forward with delivering services to our residents and sharing in the stewardship of our lands and waters."

Warden Matrosovs was nominated for the position by Councillor Shirley Keaveney of Meaford, and Councillor Ian Boddy of Owen Sound.

The position of the Warden is elected each December by members of Grey County Council at the inaugural meeting.
