Wellington County OPP are warning the public after a distraction-style theft in Fergus left a resident out $400.
Police say it began around 2:30 p.m. on November 25, when a shopper at a grocery store was followed by two men who may have seen their debit card PIN at checkout. The suspects then followed the victim home.
In the driveway, one man approached and claimed he’d lost his dog, asking for help to look for it. While the victim was distracted, a second suspect got into the victim’s vehicle and stole their debit and credit cards. A short time later, multiple withdrawal attempts were made and one successful transaction of $400 went through.
Both suspects are described as Brown males. One is between 5’10” and 6’ tall with an average build, and the other about 5’9” with a slim build. They were seen in a dark navy blue, 4-door Chevy Malibu, believed to be a 2021 or newer model.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Wellington County OPP or Crime Stoppers.
