Wellington North to unveil plaque honouring Margarette Rae Morrison Luckock

The Township of Wellington North will unveil a new provincial plaque honouring local hero Margarette Rae Morrison Luckock.

Luckock was born and raised in Arthur, and always strived to create a better society.

In 1943, Luckock became one of the first two women elected to the Ontario legislature.

She fought for universally accessible education for all, equal pay for equal work, and economic stability for the working class.

Luckock also advocated for housewives and fought for women to remain in the post-war workforce.

A ceremony unveiling a plaque honouring Luckock's legacy will be held on Friday, November 28 at the Arthur and Area Community Centre at 158 Domville Street from 1-2 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.
