Huron OPP warn dog owners after spike in aggressive animal incidents

Huron County OPP are reminding dog owners across the region to be aware of their legal responsibilities following a series of incidents involving aggressive dogs.

Police say they have responded to multiple reports in recent months across the county. Several pedestrians were attacked, other dogs have been injured or killed, and even responding officers have suffered injuries during calls.

Legal requirements for dog ownership fall under Ontario’s Dog Owners’ Liability Act, and more serious cases may result in Criminal Code charges. Municipal bylaws also set out rules for animal control, which can be found on local municipal websites.

Police are urging residents to report any aggressive animals or situations that may pose a danger to the public by calling 1-888-310-1122.
