Bruce Power will conduct a "Huron Unity" emergency preparedness event this week.
The event will be done in partnership with federal, provincial and local municipal partners from November 18-20.
This exercise is "an important part of Ontario’s Provincial Nuclear Emergency Response Plan (PNERP), designed to strengthen co-ordination and readiness in highly unlikely scenarios," Bruce Power says.
Throughout the event, numerous agencies will take part, including Emergency Management Ontario, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), local municipalities, law enforcement, health-care providers, and first responders.
Bruce Power, which will host the event on its site, adds the event will focus on "testing communication and collaboration across all levels of response to ensure plans work effectively."
The event will challenge participants and ensure safety plans are as robust as possible. Bruce Power conducts major preparedness exercises approximately every three years.
"Safety is Bruce Power’s number one value," said Jennifer Edey, Senior Vice-President, Operational Services and Business Development at Bruce Power. "These exercises allow us to work closely with community partners and external stakeholders to make sure everyone knows their role as we continue to keep our people, our site, and our communities safe."
