South Bruce OPP now equipped with body cams

The South Bruce OPP now has officers equipped with body-worn cameras.

Police say they are "committed to adopting tools and technologies that improve the quality of evidence, enhance accountability and transparency, and ultimately support the safety of both the public and officers in the communities we serve."

This follows the recent rollout of in-car cameras equipped with Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) systems.

Other police services in the province are also in the process of equipping officers with body worn cameras.

The cameras are worn clearly on the front of an officer's vest. They will display a visible green ring with flashing lights when in standby mode, which will turn flashing red once the BWC's begin recording.

A full deployment of body cams in South Bruce will be completed soon, but officers who have already completed training with them will be using them immediately.
