The Huron County OPP are reminding the public about rules regarding depositing snow or ice onto roadways.
With the first snowfall of the year just behind us, police are asking people to be mindful of where they move snow or ice from their property or vehicles.
It as an offence under the Highway Traffic Act to deposit snow or ice onto the roadway, police say. You can not put snow or ice onto a roadway without permission in writing to do so from the Ministry of Transportation or the road authority responsible for the maintenance of the road.
Residents are reminded to shovel or plow the snow onto your own lawn or driveway area, and don't push it onto neighbour's properties without permission.
Also, keep fire hydrants clear of snow for ease of access for firefighters, and leave space for your garbage and recycling bins, as collection drivers and staff will not climb over snowbanks to collect them.
