The United Way Bruce Grey is encouraging warm sock donations at upcoming local Santa Claus parades.
With winter weather setting in, keeping warm is a luxury that many don't have. Socks are one of the most urgently needed items for people experiencing homelessness.
United Way's annual Warm Sock Collection will be taking place during 6 upcoming Santa Clause parades. Parade-goers are encouraged to bring new, warm socks to donate.
The socks are then distributed through Outreach Markets, police services, and paramedics to reach people facing homelessness. Over 5,000 pairs have been distributed throughout the Grey and Bruce region, but the need continues to grow.
If you can't attend a parade, socks can be dropped off at 380 9th Street East, Owen Sound.
"A warm pair of socks might not seem like much, but to someone out in the cold, it’s huge," said Kristy Andre, Fundraising Champion for United Way Bruce Grey. "It’s comfort, it’s kindness, and it’s a reminder that someone cares. That’s what this drive is all about."
