Bruce Power and the Saugeen Ojibway Nation (SON) donated $25,000 to the Hockey Fights Cancer night at the Owen Sound Attack game November 8.
This donation was made through the Gamzook’aamin Aakoziwin Isotopes Partnership, which supports the global fight against cancer while creating new, meaningful economic opportunities within SON Territory.
The Canadian Cancer Society’s Hockey Fights Cancer fundraiser takes place at numerous rinks and games across various hockey leagues throughout November annually.
Hockey Fights Cancer was created by the National Hockey League and National Hockey League Players’ Association.
This year, 100 per cent of funds raised locally were given to the Wheels of Hope Grey Bruce and Collingwood Travel Treatment Fund, which provides transportation support for cancer patients, helping them get to and from treatment appointments when travel is a barrier to care.
"Together through the Gamzook’aamin aakoziwin partnership, Bruce Power and the Saugeen Ojibway Nation have teamed up on medical isotopes used in the fight against cancer," said Chad MacLean, Bruce Power’s Senior Director, Business Development and Transformation. "Supporting Hockey Fights Cancer is a meaningful way to extend that impact by standing with patients, families, and communities across the region."
"This donation through the Owen Sound Attack’s Hockey Fights Cancer game will make a meaningful impact in our community," said Allison Taylor-Misener, Events Specialist for the Canadian Cancer Society. "This support helps fund our local transportation program, ensuring cancer patients can access life-saving treatment without the added burden of travel. We’re incredibly grateful for the continued commitment of Bruce Power and the Saugeen Ojibway Nation to helping ease the cancer journey for families across the region."
