Unemployment rate falls in October in Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region

Local unemployment in the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region ticked down slightly in October.

That's according to the annual monthly numbers from the Four County Labour Market Planning Board (FCLMPB).

Unemployment decreased by 0.5 percentage points to 4.3 per cent, which is now the lowest unemployment rate in the province. Meanwhile, the provincial unemployment rate decreased 0.4 percentage points in October to sit at 7.9 per cent, both unadjusted for seasonality.

The FCLMPB says that employment in the region increased by 6,400 jobs in October, with gains in full-time employment of 4,700, as well as in part-time employment, with 1,700.

"This month’s report is very positive with a huge gain in overall employment," said Dana Soucie, Executive Director for the Four County Labour Market Planning Board. "The increase in participation rate was a welcome and positive sign for our Region."
