Bruce County Museum to welcome author and historian for Remembrance Day event

The Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre will host a special event to commemorate Remembrance Day this year.

On Saturday, November 8, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., acclaimed historian and author Ted Barris will come to share a presentation on the numerous contributions of Canadian airmen during the Battle of Britain in the Second World War.

This year marks the 85th anniversary of the campaign which saw many Canadian pilots help defend Britain over 113 days in 1940.

Twenty Canadian pilots were lost during the campaign, and 12 received the Distinguished Flying Cross for their courage.

Guests will enjoy complimentary coffee, tea, and treats as part of the event. Admission is $10 for museum members and $15 for non-members. Copies of Barris's book, "The Battle of Britain" will be available for purchase.

The Port Elgin Legion Branch 340 and Southampton Legion Branch 155 are proudly presenting this event. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.brucemuseum.ca.

"Canadian innovation and courage helped win the greatest air battle of the Second World War," said Barris. "Through documentary film footage, sound, interview clips and commentary, my presentation will give attendees a personalized sense of the Canadian pilots, politicians, engineers, and ordinary citizens who stepped up and made a difference."
