Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police say a dog has been euthanized following a violent attack in Dundalk Wednesday morning.
Police were called to Russell Street around 8:40 a.m. after reports that an unrestrained dog had bitten a child and was attempting to attack another. Officers say the owner was on scene but unable to restrain the animal.
When police arrived, one officer was bitten while trying to gain control of the dog.
"In the interest of public safety, police shot the dog," the OPP said in a statement released to the media. "The dog was later euthanized."
Two people suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
The OPP is reminding residents to report aggressive or dangerous animals immediately and to avoid approaching them.
