The Municipality of North Perth and the North Perth Fire Department have launched a new grain bin safety public service announcement (PSA).
This involved the creation of a new video created by Memory Tree Productions. The video aims to raise awareness about "the serious risks associated with grain bins and promotes safe practices within the agricultural community," according to the municipality.
Grain bins can present significant risks. Within a few seconds, a person can begin sinking and become trapped in the grain, causing suffocation or serious injuries.
The new PSA gives a direct and potent message about prevention, emergency preparedness, and working safely around grain.
The PSA has launched on North Perth’s social media channels during Ontario Agriculture Week. You can watch it here:
"Grain bin emergencies are preventable," said Fire Chief and Manager of Development & Protective Services for North Perth, Janny Pape. "This PSA is an important reminder that safety always comes first, even during the busy harvest season. We’re grateful to Memory Tree Productions, Perth County EMS, and the Kloostra and Tollenaar families for helping us share this life-saving message in such a powerful way. We also appreciate the generous corporate sponsorship from Hensall Co-op and Meridian Manufacturing that made the production possible."
