Hanover recently opened a brand new Newcomer Resource Centre in the Hanover Public Library.
A special opening ceremony for the new resource centre was held on September 20, with numerous local cultural food options and a dance number by the Hanover Women's Collective, as well.
April Marshall, Economic Development Manager for the Town of Hanover, says the new centre has a bunch of great information for all newcomers to the town.
"We have featured a display that has connections and resources for new Canadians and new residents to the area. So there's settlement information, we have our welcome packages, as well as additional resources to help get newcomers acquainted with the region and our community," Marshall explained. "Included in Hanover's welcome packages, we partnered with the Grey Bruce Local Immigration Partnership, or GB-LIP, and we have a newcomer guide. So essentially it lists all the resources in the area that they might want to tap into."
The Newcomer Resource Centre can be accessed during all regular Hanover Public Library hours. Marshall adds the resource centre also has loads of other vital information.
"The display also includes additional resources in line with our welcome package. You would see things like YMCA settlement services, and they offer english as a second language. There's also other groups that are forming in our area. So it's basically all the information in one dedicated space," added Marshall.
The centre was a part of the town's strategic plan, with the goal of further positioning Hanover as a welcoming community to all.
"We want the space to be the opportunity for newcomers to come and build meaningful relationships and access vital information, so they feel that they're part of the community," Marshall said.
