Exeter residents awoke to a manhunt in their community Friday after police interrupted a theft from a rental business.
According to Huron OPP, surveillance video alerted the retailer on Main Street South to a pair of thieves attempting to steal merchandise after 3 a.m. Police were called and when officers arrived on scene, two suspects took off running.
The OPP canine unit was brought in to search the area.
The public was advised to stay away and report anything suspicious. They were also reassured there was no threat to public safety.
By 7:40 a.m, police announced two people had been arrested nearby and that officers were clearing from the area.
Investigators alleged a U-Haul stolen from London was used in the attempted theft.
Charges are pending, police said.
