The Huron Marine and Economic Forum, hosted by the Huron Chamber of Commerce, takes place October 2, 2025 at Beach Street Station in Goderich. Organizers say the event will look beyond the port’s traditional role in moving salt and grain, toward possibilities like container shipping, intermodal connections, and oversized cargo.
Goderich Mayor Trevor Bazinet says the discussion is about "what the port could be, how it might connect Huron County to global markets in ways we haven’t seen before."
Frank Hurkmans, President of the Goderich Port Management Corporation, added that improved marine infrastructure could benefit agriculture, manufacturing, and even Bruce Power projects. "This isn’t just about ships and docks. It’s about jobs, competitiveness, and growth," he said.
The Forum will feature keynote speaker Daniel Tisch, President and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, along with panels on trade and economic development. A welcome reception is set for October 1 at the Benmiller Inn.
