The Premier of Ontario was in Markdale on Friday afternoon to celebrate Chapman's largest ever expansion, the development of the Phoenix 3 facility.
Doug Ford said the $200 million facility will receive $27 million in support from the Invest Ontario Fund.
Ford says it's a part of the province's response to tariff threats from the U.S.
"I’m thrilled to welcome Chapman’s latest investment in Ontario, which is a major vote of confidence in our province’s economy and workers," said the Premier. "We’re going to continue doing whatever it takes to protect workers by cutting red tape and making Ontario the most competitive place in the G7 to invest and create jobs."
The upgraded 175,000 square-foot facility will increase Chapman’s production capacity, resulting in the creation of around 200 new jobs.
Chief Operating Officer Ashley Chapman said, due to the rough winter, the facility's opening has been delayed from spring 2026 to June of next year.
"This expansion comes at a critical time for Chapman’s. The competition from multinationals has only increased in recent years and this project will help us to establish a stronger competitive ground," said Chapman. "We are grateful for the province’s support, which has allowed us to build a bigger facility and support higher-paying jobs for our community."
He said the new facility will increase Canadian dairy usage, and that number could go up even more as the company explores shipping the product overseas, citing improved relations with the U.K.
