The application process to fill a vacant seat on Georgian Bluffs Council is now open.
Following the seat recently vacated by newly appointed CAO Ryan Thompson, Georgian Bluffs Council officially declared the seat vacant on September 10.
At the council meeting on September 17, council voted to proceed with an open call for applications to fill the vacancy by appointment, rather than holding a by-election.
This approach was chosen to "reduce costs and allow for a timely appointment ahead of the 2026 municipal election," according to a media release from the Township of Georgian Bluffs.
Applications are now open and will be accepted until October 9, 2025.
To be eligible to apply, individuals must:
· Be at least 18 years of age,
· Be a Canadian citizen,
· Live in Georgian Bluffs, or own or rent property in the Township (or be the spouse of someone who does),
· Not be prohibited from voting or holding office under the law.
Council plan to review applicants at the October 15 meeting, with the final appointee being selected at a special meeting on November 5.
The successful applicant will serve for the remainder of the 2022–2026 term of Council, ending on November 14, 2026.
