Just days before Canadians pause to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at the end of the month, the Town of Minto will be hosting what it calls an Indigenous Celebration.
The event, organized by Minto’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, will feature the screening of two Indigenous films at the Norgan Theatre in Palmerston starting at 12:45 p.m. on September 27. The films, which are being presented by the National Film Board of Canada, are "Cry from a Diary of a Métis Child" and "Bill Reid Remembers".
Following the movies, those in attendance are invited to visit the Tipi of Huron-Perth at 8837 Road 164 in Gowanstown. There attendees will not only experience an authentic tipi, but also hear teachings and stories from Chippewa Knowledge Carrier Christin Dennis and Indigenous Community Educator and visionary behind Crow Shield Lodge Clarence Cachagee.
Admission to the Indigenous Celebration is $10 with pre-registration required by September 24.

Created in 2021, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a federal statutory holiday to remember the more than 150,000 First Nations, Inuit, and Métis children forcibly removed from their families and placed in Canada’s residential school system.
