Stratford woman charged with arson in $1.2M restaurant fire

An arson charge has been laid two years after a fire caused $1.2 million in damages to a restaurant in Bayfield.

The blaze broke out in The Hub on the Docks restaurant on Bluewater Highway around 9:50 p.m. on October 17, 2023. The Bluewater Fire Department extinguished the flames and no injuries were reported.

The Office of the Fire Marshal was called into probe the cause of the fire and determined it was the result of arson.

The lengthy investigation led Huron OPP to arrest a 63-year-old Stratford woman on Wednesday. She was taken into custody without incident, police said.

The woman is charged with three counts of breaking and entering to commit an indictable offence, three counts of arson causing property damage, and three counts of possession of incendiary material.

She is scheduled to appear in Goderich court in relation to the charges on October 20.
