Owen Sound household hazardous waste day set for Saturday

The City of Owen Sound will host its sixth Household Hazardous Waste Day of 2025 this Saturday, September 13, at the Owen Sound Public Works Facility on 20th Street East. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and provides residents with an opportunity to safely dispose of items that can’t go in regular garbage or recycling.

Two more dates remain in this year’s schedule: October 4 and October 25.

The program is open to residents from Owen Sound, Chatsworth, Georgian Bluffs, Grey Highlands, and Meaford. To participate, residents are asked to bring valid ID showing their home address and a completed Household Hazardous Waste Form, which can be downloaded from OwenSound.ca/WasteForm.

A full list of accepted materials is available on the City’s website. However, items such as syringes, radioactive waste, explosives, unlabeled materials, and improperly contained items will not be accepted. The City reminds residents that transporting leaking or poorly contained containers poses health and safety risks and encourages them to place hazardous products in clean, labelled containers before bringing them to the site.

The program is designed for household waste only and cannot accept materials from commercial, industrial, or farm operations.

For more details, including a list of what can be disposed of, visit OwenSound.ca/Waste.
