New art exhibit to open at Bruce County museum Saturday

The works of a Hanover-based painter are the focus of a new art exhibit at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre.

The exhibition named "Art and Soul: Watercolour and Batik in Harmony" opens at 2 p.m. on Saturday. It showcases the work of painter and instructor Bev Morgan who blends the delicate traditions of watercolour with the vibrant textures of Batik. According to the museum, Morgan achieves this by combining melted wax and watercolours on rice paper.

"Artists build up layers of colour and wax to preserve tones and values, eventually crumpling the waxed paper to create fine cracks that absorb darker pigments," the museum said. "The artist irons away the wax, revealing patterns which bring depth and character to the painting—giving each piece its signature Batik finish."

Morgan, whose been associated with the Southampton Arts Centre since 2011, became a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists in 2018. She has taught art classes locally, aboard cruise lines, and online through Udemy.com.

While admission to Saturday's exhibit opening is free, those planning to attend are asked to RSVP online at www.brucemuseum.ca or by calling 519-797-2080.
