Residents temporarily displaced by Lucknow condo fire return home

A fire at a condo building in Lucknow Wednesday morning temporarily displaced 50 residents.

Firefighters from the Township of Huron-Kinloss Fire and Emergency Services, along with South Bruce OPP, were called to the blaze at one of the units at 550 Montgomery Lane around 8:40 a.m.

"Upon arrival, fire crews initiated a swift and coordinated response, successfully containing the fire and preventing it from spreading," Fire Chief Jeff Bradley said. "Mutual aid partners, the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police, and Victim Services, provided critical support during the operation."

No one was hurt, but multiple units were affected by the smoke and flames. A damage estimate has not been provided.

The fire forced residents of the condos out of their homes for several hours. They were provided immediate support services from township staff. Victim Services also assisted residents with additional supports. By 1 p.m. the condo building was deemed safe enough to allow the residents to return, Bradley, confirmed.

“As part of our ongoing commitment to community safety, we encourage all residents to regularly install, test, and replace smoke alarms," said Bradley. "These simple actions save lives."

While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, it is not being treated as suspicious.
