North Perth Council donates land to Community Living North Perth

The Municipality of North Perth has officially donated municipal land to Community Living North Perth for a new build that will house 15 units.

North Perth Council unanimously voted at the September 8 meeting to donate 580 Main Street West to the project. Tracy Wareham, Community Living's Community Engagement Lead, says the municipality have been great partners and the land donation is very significant.

"This land will be a place for a 15-unit apartment building that will provide safe and stable housing and a place to call home for 9 of the 47 individuals with developmental disabilities that we support who are waiting for housing," Wareham shared proudly.

There will also be units for other vulnerable people.

"It will also include 4 units for individuals that are eligible for housing support through the City of Stratford Social Services. So we are super excited to partner with the City of Stratford on this project, as well," added Wareham.

The land being donated by the municipality, which was designated as surplus, is valued at $250,000. Wareham says this is an amazing gift to receive, and the project highlights how important housing is for the people they support.

"This really will be a huge step forward in providing some affordable housing and also supported housing for people. There will be 24-hour support in this building for those that need it," Wareham pointed out.

Wareham adds that there will be an event on October 30, called “The Power of Place to Call Home: An Evening of Building Futures,” at the Listowel Golf and Country Club supporting the building project. Details and tickets will be released soon on Community Living's social pages.

Community Living North Perth has supported individuals with developmental disabilities for 60 years.

"This project is about more than housing – it’s about inclusion, independence, and opportunity," said Mayor Todd Kasenberg. "By working together with Community Living North Perth, we can create a place where people feel supported, safe, and connected to the community."
