Huron County celebrates Welcoming Week with ten community events

Huron County is gearing up for a week-long celebration of inclusion and community. From September 12 to 21, Huron County will join communities around the world in celebrating Welcoming Week, an annual campaign that encourages connection and understanding among neighbours.

This year’s program features ten events across seven Huron County communities, ranging from art festivals to community picnics.

Highlights include the Bayfield Main Street Arts Festival on September 21, which will showcase local creativity through interactive art and workshops, and the Exeter Block Party on September 17, offering music, entertainment, and cultural celebration.

Other events include Meet Your Neighbour Nights in Brussels, Hensall, Seaforth, and Wingham; a Community Picnic in Dashwood on September 13; two community discussions in Goderich on September 15 and 17; and a film screening at the Huron County Museum on September 20.

“Welcoming Week reflects Huron County’s ongoing commitment to building a community where all individuals feel valued and included,” said Huron County Warden Jamie Heffer. “We invite residents from all backgrounds to participate in this important initiative.”

Since its local launch in 2021, Welcoming Week has drawn over 4,000 participants to dozens of events in Huron County.

Phil Maier, co-chair of the Huron County Immigration Partnership, said the 2025 calendar is designed to strengthen connections and celebrate diversity.

“Welcoming Week serves as a powerful reminder that communities thrive when diversity is embraced and every individual feels a sense of belonging. It is an opportunity to reaffirm our shared commitment to inclusion, and to recognize the invaluable contributions that everyone, including immigrants, brings to the cultural and economic vitality of Huron County,” Maier said.
