Huron teen loses $5K to bank card scam

A 19-year-old from Central Huron is out $5,000 after falling victim to a bank card scam.

According to Huron OPP, the teen received a call earlier this month from someone claiming to be from their bank who advised the teen's bank cards had been compromised. The teen was told the bank would send someone to their house to pick up the cards.

A man soon arrived by car and the teen turned the cards over, police said.

Later, it was discovered $5,000 had been stolen from the teen's accounts.

"This is a good time to remind everyone to never provide your PIN digits to anyone. Banks will never attend your home to pick up debit or credit cards," Constable Craig Soldan said in a statement.

Police continue to investigate the incident and are asking anyone with information that may assist officers to call them at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
