United Way Bruce Grey host successful Stuff the Bus fundraiser

United Way Bruce Grey (UWBG) had a very successful fundraiser to help kids going back to school.

The Stuff the Bus event was held Friday, August 22 from Grant’s in Hanover and on Saturday, August 23 from Vanderwerf’s in Port Elgin.

This fundraiser was to collect money and school supply donations, as well as backpacks, to help families in need send their kids to school with all the essentials.

A total of $1,034.60 was raised in Hanover, and $592.10 in Port Elgin.

"A lot that was collected are going into backpacks as we speak," said Kristy Andre, United Way Fundraising Champion. "I’ll pick up the items from the donation boxes late this week or early next. This helps out so much. One highlight on Saturday was a woman who dropped off 125 brand new backpacks!"

This year marked 20 years since the backpack program was launched.
