A cryptocurrency scam has cost a resident in the Municipality of Kincardine nearly $100,000.
The fraud was reported to South Bruce OPP on Tuesday.
Investigators have determined over the past few months a person had made a series of transactions through a cryptocurrency trading website. Each time the person spoke with an individual to facilitate the transactions, it was requested more money be sent. Approximately $95,000 was sent through the site, police said.
However, when the person attempted to withdraw the funds they were unable to. This prompted the person to call police.
"We urge residents to be cautious when engaging in digital currency transactions and investments," said police.
The investigation, being overseen by the South Bruce OPP crime unit, is ongoing.
Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
