Cyclist charged with drug offences after running from police

A Perth East resident is facing drug trafficking charges after running from police.

According to Perth County OPP, on August 25 just after 8 p.m., officers attempted to stop an e-bike on Perth Road 131 for a traffic violation.

The rider ran off from police on foot, but was apprehended a short time later.

Following the individual's arrest, police searched the suspect and found suspected cocaine, fentanyl and methamphetamine, as well as other drug paraphernalia.

As a result, the 34-year-old from Perth East is facing three counts of drug trafficking charges, as well as charges for failing to wear proper headwear while operating a power-assisted bike and failure to stop for police.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on October 10, 2025 to answer to the charges. They were released from OPP custody and transferred to a municipal police service for a warrant in an unrelated incident.
