Ferry company warns of website scam

The company that operates ferries across southwestern Ontario has warned residents about a phony website.

The Owen Sound Transportation Company (OSTC) has reported that a fake website impersonating the company is online.

"This website is not affiliated with the Owen Sound Transportation Company (OSTC) or our ferry services, and any information or services found on it are not official or legitimate," read a media release from the OSTC.

The OSTC said it is working to have the fraudulent website removed.

The legitimate website, the one that should be used to book passage, is here.

Reservations should also only be made through the following numbers.

  • Chi-Cheemaun (Tobermory | Manitoulin Island): 1-800-265-3163

  • Pelee Island Ferries: 1-800-661-2220

  • Niska (Moosonee | Moose Factory Island): 1-705-658-4335

If you believe you may have been scammed, contact your local law enforcement agency, as well as your financial institution, to dispute the charge.
