Air Canada will gradually restart operations on Tuesday after reaching a mediated agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees.
The agreement hinges on flight attendants returning to work immediately.
"The suspension of our service is extremely difficult for our customers. We deeply regret and apologize for the impact on them of this labour disruption. Our priority now is to get them moving as quickly as possible," said Air Canada President and CEO Michael Rousseau. "Restarting a major carrier like Air Canada is a complex undertaking. Full restoration may require a week or more."
The first flights are scheduled for Tuesday evening.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees, which represents flight attendants at Air Canada, posted on Facebook the strike is over.
"We have a tentative agreement we will bring forward to you," said the post. "We are required to advise our membership that we must fully cooperate with resumption of operations."
The post suggests the deal was reached just after 4:30 a.m.
So far, the union hasn't set a date for the ratification vote.
