A brand new, state-of-the-art CT scanner is now operational at Brightshores Owen Sound Hospital.
The CT scanner is the result of the local hospital foundation's tireless findraising efforts, and the generosity of many donors.
Patients began having scans in the new CT scanner earlier this week. Over the coming days, hospital staff will be ramping the CT scanner up to 100 per cent capacity.
CT imaging is a "critical diagnostic tool used across hospital departments, including the Emergency Department, inpatient care and outpatient services. It offers fast, cutting-edge imaging and enables doctors to quickly and accurately diagnose strokes, cancers, internal injuries, infections and many other conditions. Brightshores introduced a second CT scanner at the Southampton Hospital in fall 2023," according to a media release from Brightshores.
More than 16,000 CT procedures are performed annually at Brightshores.
"This investment in advanced diagnostic technology is an important step in enhancing the care we provide," said Ann Ford, president and CEO of Brightshores. "The new CT scanner will allow us to serve patients across Grey Bruce more quickly and with even greater precision. We are grateful to our patients and families for their patience and support during the transition to replace the former scanner and bring this one to full capacity."
"Medical imaging is often a crucial component in developing care plans for patients," added Kathy Beattie, director of medical imaging and cardiology. "The new CT scanner enhances the image quality while decreasing the radiation exposure to patients, contributing to a more patient-centred care experience."
