Charges laid in Huron County cocaine seizure

A Central Huron man is facing drug charges following an investigation by Huron County OPP.

According to police, the Huron-Perth Ontario Provincial Police Community Street Crimes Unit launched an investigation in June into drug related offences in Central Huron.

On July 30, a traffic stop in Wilmot Township in Waterloo Region resulted in the seizure of illegal drugs and related property. One individual was arrested and charged. Following that arrest, a search warrant was executed at an address in Central Huron the next day.

A quantity of suspected cocaine was seized. The total value of the illegal drugs seized is estimated at $16,780. Additional offence-related property including a cell phone seized by police totalled $1,000.

A 31-year-old Central Huron resident now faces a charge of possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine).

The accused was later released from custody with a court date scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kitchener on September 11.
