Owen Sound is lacing up once again as Hockey Fest returns for a three-day community celebration from November 13 to 15, 2025.
The event builds on the momentum of Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada in 2023 and three successful Hockey Fest events since, keeping the city’s love for the game alive.
Hockey Fest is a partnership between Owen Sound Girls Hockey, local schools, and the City of Owen Sound, with support from the University of Waterloo Warriors.
The festivities begin on Thursday, November 13, when the Bayshore Community Centre hosts the East versus West high school hockey matchups, featuring boys’ and girls’ teams from Owen Sound District Secondary School and St. Mary’s School.
On Friday, November 14, University of Waterloo players will visit Hillcrest Elementary, Keppel-Sarawak Elementary, and East Ridge Community School for floor hockey games and Q&A sessions. That evening, the University of Waterloo Women’s Hockey team will host on-ice clinics, offering skill-building and tips for players.
The Northern Lights Lady Classic tournament also runs throughout the weekend, with a full slate of games at local arenas, including new divisions for U11 through U18 teams.
Saturday’s highlight is a 2 p.m. OUA matchup between the University of Waterloo Warriors and the Toronto Varsity Blues at the Bayshore. Tickets are available in person at the MacVicar & McComb Sutton Realty Attack Box Office, by phone at 519-371-7452, or online.
Following the game, the community is invited downtown for Holiday Magic, featuring the Kiwanis Santa Claus Parade and the kickoff to the Festival of Northern Lights. Immediately afterwards, the “Sick Shot” road hockey games will take place in memory of Josh Olynyk, a local minor hockey player who passed away from cancer in 2009. Teams of young players, aged U7 to U12, can register in advance to participate.
