United Way to hold workshop event on community belonging

United Way Perth Huron (UWPH) will hold a workshop event on community belonging on October 7 in Clinton.

UWPH says the event is called Belonging Matters, and will feature "a film screening, panel discussion, and collaborative planning on how to create activities and programs to strengthen connections."

It will take place at Libro Hall in the Clinton arena from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event is being led by a community development expert from the Tamarack Institute, who partnered on the event with Huron Perth Public Health, United Way Perth-Huron (UWPH), Gateway Centre for Excellence in Rural Health and the Huron County Immigration Partnership.

Tickets are available online at PerthHuron.UnitedWay.ca. With lunch included the event costs $45 per adult, $30 for students.

"We believe the community can identify and build on its strengths to design activities that encourages everyone to get involved and feel a sense of belonging," explained Heather Keam, Event Facilitator from the Tamarack Institute. "This event is a great chance for everyone to come and imagine how we can build a stronger sense of belonging for all."

"Research tells us that people who feel connected and have a sense of belonging in their communities have decreased risks of serious health conditions such as heart disease, stroke, dementia and depression," noted Laura O’Rourke, Public Health Promoter, Huron Perth Public Health. "On average, people who have strong social connections are happier, healthier and live longer than those who don’t."
