Kelso Beach has been declared unfit for swimming by Grey Bruce Public Health.
This follows recent water samples showed bacterial levels exceeding Ontario Ministry of Health standards.
The beach posting will remain in effect until further samples show levels have returned to within the acceptable range for swimming and bathing.
Everyone is reminded not to swim in water at beaches that are deemed unsafe, as bacteria in the water can cause skin, eye, ear, nose, and throat infections or gastrointestinal illness. Young children and pets should be kept away from the water especially.
The water samples were taken on August 5 and received on August 6 by public health. Further sample results will be reported on as soon as they are received.
"While we understand that this posting will be an inconvenience to some, we respectfully ask that residents and visitors respect this swim advisory as people are at an increased risk of getting sick or an infection when bacterial levels in beach water exceed Ontario guidelines," said Senior Public Health Manager Andrew Barton.
