Special air quality statement issued across midwestern Ontario

Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for midwestern Ontario due to wildfire smoke.

The statement came into effect Saturday afternoon, with the smoke expected to linger around for the entire weekend.

The weather agency is encouraging people in the area to limit their time outside.

Those who stay outside for long periods of time may experience eye, nose, and throat irritation, headaches, or a mild cough. More serious symptoms include wheezing, chest pains, and severe cough.
