A Markham woman is accused of shoplifting nearly $10,000 worth of merchandise from a Hanover pharmacy.
The woman was recently arrested by an off-duty OPP officer, with a search turning up more than $3,000 worth of over-the-counter medications that were not paid for. According to Hanover police, which took over the investigation, an electronic device was used to disable the anti-theft alarm system.
Investigators also determined there were two outstanding arrest warrants for the woman related to two other thefts at the same pharmacy.
The total value of the items taken during the three shoplifting incidents is nearly $10,000, police said. The stolen merchandise included bottles of pain relievers such as Advil and Tylenol, as well as Imodium and Nicorette.
A 54-year-old woman is charged with seven offences including one count of unlawful use of a computer and three counts each of theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property.
"[The woman] is being investigated in other parts of the province for similar crimes, so by the time she finishes these court appearances, she may need the Advil, Aleve and Tylenol for all of her headaches," Hanover Police Chief Christopher Knoll wrote on social media.
The woman has been remanded into custody.
