The West Grey Public Library is set to grow a new green initiative, thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation Grey Bruce (CFGB).
The funding will support the creation of a pollinator garden featuring mostly native plants. According to library officials, the space will contribute to the broader Grey-Bruce pollinator corridor and serve as a teaching tool for the library’s gardening and sustainability programs.
"We are very grateful to the Community Foundation Grey Bruce for seeing the merit and the opportunities in this project," said Kimm Culkin, the library’s Communication and Programming Coordinator. "It will join our video series, in-residence consultations, workshops, seed library and book collection as tools for local residents to maintain environmentally responsible gardens and growing spaces."
Culkin added that the new garden will be a valuable resource for staff and volunteers already engaged in environmental education at the library.
"Nikki, our Environmentalist-in-residence; Jackie, a Master Gardener Emeritus and The Library’s Gardener-in-residence; and the Grey County Master Gardeners, who present regularly at the Library, will find this garden very helpful in their discussions with patrons," she said.
