Project Noisemaker targets aggressive driving and loud mufflers in Hanover

The Hanover Police Service has been busy trying to combat aggressive driving and loud mufflers.

In May of this year, the Hanover Police Service launched Project Noisemaker, which is a concentrated effort from local police to address aggressive driving and loud mufflers in the area.

The project will run until September 12.

"Vehicle owners are encouraged to repair any modified exhaust systems and refrain from using other devices that increase noise levels," a statement from Hanover police says. "Drivers found in violation are subject to charges under the Highway Traffic Act for offences such as Improper Muffler and Unnecessary Noise. These infractions carry set fines of $110 that could also lead to a court date for repeat and ongoing violators."

So far during the project, Hanover police officers have laid 35 charges and issued 22 warnings for offences ranging from unnecessary noise, improper mufflers, speeding, careless driving, driving under suspension, and more.

"We have received positive community feedback and believe that drivers are starting to get the message that loud vehicles and aggressive driving are not welcome or tolerated on our streets," Hanover Police Chief Chris Knoll said.
