The Huron Women’s Shelter will receive nearly $600,000 from the Ontario government to support a new housing initiative for women and children affected by gender-based violence.
The Second Stage Housing and Counselling Services program was awarded a $599,700 Grow grant through the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), which will be delivered over three years. The funding will help launch a relationship-centred housing model aimed at providing long-term, supportive care.
The Huron Women’s Shelter is among 140 non-profits, Indigenous communities, and small municipalities across Ontario sharing more than $45 million in provincial funding announced this week.
The Grow grants, which range from $100,000 to $600,000, are designed to help non-profits expand or improve programs that promote active lifestyles, community engagement, and youth development.
Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming Stan Cho says the Grow stream helps non-profit organizations increase the impact of their community projects. "Whether it’s helping seniors stay physically active and learn new skills or connecting young people to their communities through the arts, non-profit organizations across Ontario deliver programs and services that make a real difference in people’s lives," said Cho. "Now more than ever, it’s vital that we help ensure local non-profit groups can build on their successes in ways that protect and build Ontario and benefit communities across the province."
