Bruce Power is inviting the public to learn more about its proposed Bruce C nuclear expansion through two Community Information Sessions this summer.
One will be held in person on July 27, while a virtual event will be held on August 12.
As part of a federal integrated Impact Assessment (IA), Bruce Power is exploring the option to build up to 4,800 megawatts of new nuclear capacity at the Bruce site, an initiative known as Bruce C. These sessions are designed to engage the public, Indigenous communities, and municipalities on the potential economic, environmental, social, and health impacts of the proposed project.
“Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator is predicting that electricity demand is expected to grow rapidly in the coming decades and Bruce Power is exploring opportunities to support the need for emissions-free generation while also driving the economy,” said Pat Dalzell, Bruce Power’s Vice-President, Corporate Affairs and Market Development. “We’re undertaking a federal integrated Impact Assessment (IA) process, led by the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) alongside the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), to study the potential environmental, economic, social and health impacts of a new nuclear build.”
The in-person session will take place at the Bruce Power Visitors’ Centre, located at 3394 Bruce County Road 20 north of Tiverton, on Sunday, July 27, from 1 to 4 p.m. Attendees can meet with members of the Bruce C team at topic-specific tables and ask questions. No registration is required.
Those unable to attend in person are invited to join a virtual livestream hosted by James Scongack, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice-President of Bruce Power, on August 12 at 7 p.m. The virtual session will include a presentation and a question-and-answer component.
“Engaging with Indigenous Nations and Communities, municipalities and the public is an important part of the process,” Dalzell added.
