While the hot, humid conditions will have people flocking to beaches in Huron and Perth counties this weekend, there is one area beach swimmers will temporarily want to avoid.
Goderich Main Beach has tested positive for high levels of E.coli bacteria.
Huron Perth Public announced the results from testing completed on Wednesday. It is advising people to stay out of the water at Goderich Main Beach for the time being as swimming when high levels of bacteria are present can cause minor skin, eye, ear, nose or throat infections or stomach illness. Symptoms of a gastrointestinal illness include abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea.
E.coli is an indicator there is human and/or animal fecal contamination present. Warm and unsettled weather can contribute to the elevated bacteria levels in the water.
The water at the beach will be retested on Friday, with updated results to be posted on Saturday at www.hpph.ca/beachinfo.
The other 14 area beaches tested by the Huron Perth Public Health this week were all deemed safe.
