The Grey Bruce OPP has charged a truck driver and the owner of a trucking company, following a fatal collision in Southgate this winter.
Emergency services responded to the collision at the intersection of Grey Road 9 and Southgate Sideroad 71 around 8:40 a.m. on January 27. According to police, a passenger vehicle and a commercial vehicle collided in the intersection.
A 49-year-old and 15-year-old, both from Kitchener, were killed in the crash. A 19-year-old also sustained serious injuries.
As a result of the month-long investigation, police say a 52-year-old Brampton man is facing criminal charges including two counts of dangerous operation causing death and dangerous operation causing bodily harm.
The man is also facing numerous Highway Traffic Act offences including three counts of driving a commercial motor vehicle with a major defect, driving a commercial motor vehicle without required inspection, driving without a validated permit and driving with the window obstructed.
The 41-year-old owner of the involved company also faces charges for failure to ensure performance standards are met, failure to ensure daily inspection is conducted properly, and failure to ensure daily inspection report is accurately completed.
