Pedestrian airlifted to hospital after hit-and-run in Owen Sound

One person has been charged in a hit-and-run in Owen Sound that saw a pedestrian airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

Emergency crews were called to the collision near the intersection of 1st Avenue West and 11th Street West shortly after 11 p.m. on Sunday. The pedestrian was initially rushed to Brightshores Health System and then airlifted to Victoria Hospital in London with serious injuries. As of Monday morning, the pedestrian was listed in stable condition, Owen Sound police said.

A suspect vehicle in the hit-and-run was stopped by police and the driver arrested roughly 35 minutes after the collision.

A 41-year-old Owen Sound man is charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failure to stop at a crash causing bodily harm, refusal to comply with demand, and driving a vehicle without a licence.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
